46.1 Treat cutaneous larva migrans:

  • Thiabendazole as topical treatment
  • Oral Treatment - Albendazole/Ivermectin - usually Ivermecttin

46.2 Cutaneous myiasis…

Spot are supposed to have two little breathing tubes out the top, and sometimes you can feel them wriggle.

###In africa:

Tumbu Fly/Mango Fly (cordylobia anthropophaga)

  • Fly lays eggs on ground/on wet clothes on the ground.
  • Eggs hatch and larvae migrate into skin
  • Maggot forms, usually on underwear line

Iron your clothes to prevent it

###In americas:

Dermatobia hominis (human bot fly)

  • Bot fly uses mosquitoes to transmit larvae
  • So maggots form on exposed areas

Mosquito repellent to prevent it

46.2.1 Treat

  • Treat by asphyxiate (vaseline + occlusive dressing)
  • So the worm starts wriggling out
  • Grab with tweezers

46.3 Fleas

Chigoe fleas/jiggers - it’s the female flea

Treat with chopping the flea out intact
